What is Geocaching?

Geocaches are hidden treasures all over the world–seriously, almost 3,000,000 world-wide! We have been searching for these treasures, by geocaching, for about seven years and have had so much fun deciphering the description and utilizing a GPS for coordinates.  If you don't have a GPS to download the coordinates from geocaching.com,  you can download the app for a one time fee (under $15.)  I have it on my phone and because I have limited data, I upload the location of the caches onto my phone while I'm at home and then don't use to need data while we are at the park.

Green Lake

Awesome trip!! Just got back from my dad's `cabin' (house) at Green Lake. We went with my sister Maria and her family. Basically the kids just played, played, played. Such a great age. We were without internet which meant that we couldn't do the geocaching we wanted to but we did have two locations stored in the GPS so we did those two. Ashley W, if you're reading, I was going to email you to see if you wanted to geocache with us (I think your kids would love it!) but our wireless connection wasn't working.

We took the four big kids geocaching...

You can see that Izzy did not love her first geocache (below). It may have had something to do with the long hike along snowmobile trails, falling through deep snow, and not finding the actual geocache (likely buried under the snow).

We did find another one and Ani and Kai got to sign their names in it.

There were some great workouts for the parents:)

Gary and I actually went for a nice jog together. We never go up in the winter/spring, isn't it gorgeous?

Gary and I went back to the spot where we took an engagement photo on January 22nd, 2005 (we got engaged on the 21st). We got engaged and married up at Green Lake. We did a little updated photo at that spot:)

Great trip. Last time we were there, Koen had the flu so this was much nicer:) The kids all got along so well, so fun to see!

Such a great first week of Spring Break. Looking forward to week #2!!!!

Treasure Hunting

The weather today was AMAZING. It was so good to wear sunglasses and see our shadows. We skipped church as Koen still has a cold so it would've just been one of us taking Kai. We went to walk the Shoreline Trail in Port Moody. I love it and Gary had never been! I would love to run there, bike there....such a great place.

We found two geocaches which Gary and Kai love. I do enjoy it, as long as we actually find it. There were some good ones today, I love the genius ways of hiding treasures!

The sun was deceiving as it was super chilly but the boys just ran and ran so they stayed warm. I love family days. So good to have Gary home the past two days! To go for walks as a family, to have Gary play tons of Chutes and Ladders with Kai, for Gary and Kai to go biking so I can work for a bit...just so nice.

I actually have a family session at this park next week so I'm really looking forward to it. Hopefully it's a day just like today.

I know spring break is seven weeks away but I am soooooooooooo looking forward to it. No work, just hang out with the family and maybe read a bit too! I finished the Hunger Games trilogy and it was so good.

Oh, I'll finish with a story. I have started taking melatonin to sleep at night and noticed that I would wake up abruptly at 5am and really have to pee. Totally weird and I attributed it to the melatonin. Realized this morning at 5am that it's because our neighbours just got a puppy who cries to go outside and pee at 5am. In my sleep, I was hearing `Go pee!' and it woke me up and made me have to go:)

Mr. Adventure

For those of you who don't know Gary, he is very even keel. He doesn't show much excitement for things except when coaching basketball. However, we have found that he really enjoys the mystery and adventure of geocaching. I think it fulfills his secret inner desire to be a spy or detective.

I do have to admit that when we found this one, I was pretty pumped. It was a hard one to find. By the way, if you are ever on your way to 100 Mile House, hike up Mt. Begbie. It's just a bunch of switchbacks but it only takes 5 minutes (without Kai) to climb up and you get a great view.
